Sundance Community

Past and Present

Sundance Montessori has been providing high quality, authentic Montessori education in the Folsom community since 1989.  Much of Sundance’s success can be attributed to our close-knit community and the direct sharing among families of their children’s wonderful experiences.  Sundance steadily earned the reputation over the years of becoming the place to enroll your child if you were looking for a first-rate education among caring educators who possessed a solid foundation in authentic Montessori teaching methods.

Sundance continued to expand over the years to serve the community’s growing interest in Montessori education, relocating to its current location in the historic district of Folsom.  The campus is tucked away on a quiet lot with a garden-like setting which includes a centralized playground filled with fruit trees, a children’s community garden,   the children’s library with over 800 titles, and a peace pole with the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” written in English, Chinese, Hindu, Hebrew, Italian, Arabic, and Spanish.

We welcome visitors to tour and observe in our classrooms to gain insight into daily classroom and campus life.  We would be happy to answer any questions you may have about the Montessori method of education.  Please contact us to learn how early Montessori education can develop a foundation for your child’s future success in education.

Peace Education

At Sundance, we share in Maria Montessori’s vision of providing children a learning environment centered on peace. Dr. Montessori was trice nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. In 1932 she addressed the League of Nations in Geneva with these words:

“The Science of Peace, were it to become a special discipline, would be the most noble of all, for the very life of humanity depends on it. So, also perhaps, does the question of whether our entire civilization evolves or disappears.”

It is our goal to educate our children in a way that will support a peaceful present, and a peaceful future for all mankind.

Be sure to visit our beautiful Peace Pole when you come for your visit to our Folsom campus.

Family & Community

Promoting community between families and educators happens in many ways. Parents are encouraged to become actively involved in the school however suits them; they may have a special talent, skill, or cultural tradition to share. Donations of time in the classrooms or chaperoning on fieldtrips are also important. Sundance parents also participate in activities that promote school improvements, service projects and social activities.

The community spirit outside of our campus is honored as well.  Our students take part in such charity fundraisers as the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital Trike-A-Thon, and the development of an outreach program with a nearby convalescent hospital.  We also explore ways to make our school a “green school,” by recycling, growing an organic garden, composting and sharing the fruits of our “labor” with our family and friends in the community.

Diversity in the needs of our students is not just recognized, but celebrated on our campus! Sundance fosters inclusion in all classrooms in order to recognize each child’s unique abilities.
